  • Description:

The Morgan was first minted in 1878 but due to government silver reserved depleting, the production of the Morgans ended in 1904. The depletion of the reserves was because of a bill Congress passed that demanded all remaining silver should be melted into silver dollars. Then, in 1918 another bill was passed that authorized the minting and melting of silver dollars. The Morgan was produced for one more year in 1921 but lost the spotlight to the new Peace dollar. Your 1978-S Morgan Silver Dollar was minted at the San Francisco sector of the US Mint, sporting the "S" mint-mark on the reverse. Your 1878-S Morgan is considered to be extra fine condition, with some wear to be expected. The wear is most noticeable on Lady Liberty's cheeks, hairline, and her ear. This wear affects the luster that goes from one rim to the other. The reverse eagle also contains wear mostly on its breast, wing, and tail feathers.
