Due to the passage of the Coinage Act of 1873, the Seated Liberty dollar's production was ceased. The Morgan silver dollar became the first standard silver dollar minted since the Seated Liberty. It earned the name, Morgan, in honor of the English United States Mint engraver, George T. Morgan. Morgan was responsible for other designs too, such as the Columbian Exposition half dollar.
