  • Description:

Starting in 1982, the Mexican Silver Libertad series comes from one of the oldest mints in the Americas: the Mexican Mint. Each year, a new coin is minted, displaying the same design on the front and back of the coin; the only difference is the year. The Mexican Silver Libertads are in brilliant uncirculated condition, they weigh five troy ounces of silver, and they come packaged for their protection. Silver coin collectors and investors enjoy the authentic design of the Libertad and its old history.

The obverse of the Libertad is what usually gets people's attention. Front and center is the remarkable winged Victoria, who represents Mexican Independence Victory Column. She is graceful, yet strong with her beautiful wings extending to the top of the coin. She is draped in a cascading scarf that only covers her bottom half. Her placement on the coin is in front of two famous volcanoes to the Mexican culture: Popocatépetl and Iztaccihuatl. These two volcanoes are still active in Mexico and legend has it that they were once lovers, similar to the tragic story of Romeo and Juliet.
