  • Description:

To celebrate its 20th anniversary, the Pobjoy Mint produced the Burmilla cat Isle of Man silver coin. The Pobjoy Mint is a private mint, located in Surrey, England, and has created non-circulating coins and commemoratives for governments and central banks all over the world! The Isle of Man Silver Cat series started in 1988 because the Pobjoy Mint wanted a silver bullion version of their extremely popular Isle of Man Gold Cat series. The inspiration for the cat series came from the Manx cat, whose breed originated on the Isle of Man. Your 2008 Isle of Man Silver coin is guaranteed to be .999 pure silver and is finished with impressive proofing methods to create a perfect sheen. To protect your coin, we place each coin into individual coin flips during shipment.

The Burmilla Cat breed was accidentally created in the United Kingdom in 1981. A Chinchilla Persian and a brown Burmese were both waiting to be bred with other partners. The door dividing both breeds was left open one night and the two frisky felines started a new breed that night. Burmilla cats have interesting shorthair and the coloring is a mix of gray and white. Their eyes tend to be more oval shaped and their ears have a rounded edge. This breed of cat is very loyal to its owner and displays kitten characteristics, even into adulthood. An adult Burmilla is featured on the reverse side of this coin with its kitten sitting next to her. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is portrayed on the obverse as an older woman, with lines and facial features accentuated. A cat is the symbol of good luck and protection since ancient Roman times. Begin the tradition of wishing loved ones good luck with a silver token.
