Description:
The Elymias Kingdom was a relatively autonomous state in what is now Western Iran, at the north shores of the Persian Gulf. It existed between 147 B.C. and 222 A.D. The culture is not well-documented, but the kingdom was often subject to the Parthians to the east and had strong Hellenistic influences from the west, as depicted on their coinage. This tetradrachm had dual busts of the king and queen on the obverse, and Zeus seated left on the reverse, holding Nike and a sceptre.
