  • Description:

The Philadelphia Mint was the first mint facility, established in the US, by 1792. The Founding Fathers greatly desired to become a nation, fully immersed in international commerce, and to do so, they needed to produce their own currency. Along with the establishment of the mint, the Mint Act was also passed, requiring certain criteria for the minted coins. For example, a coin's monetary denomination must be present on all currency, such as $1 or half dollar. Another serious requirement is there must be an emblematic symbol of liberty on every coin. It is because of this law that the US coins contain either Lady Liberty, the bald eagle, or both. The 1974 Eisenhower Dollar is in brilliant uncirculated condition and portrays the late president and general, Dwight D. Eisenhower. Eisenhower passed in 1969, right when the US Mint wanted to mint a new dollar.
