After 31 years in production, the Walking Liberty Half Dollar was replaced by the Franklin Half Dollar. When Mint Engraver, Robert W. Woolley, discovered it was the law to discontinue a coin series after it has been produced for 25 years, he decided to discontinue the Barber series. Woolley approached the Commission of Fine Arts to hold a competition for the new design on the half dollar and Adolph A. Weinman became the winner of designing the new dime and half dollar.
The Certified Walking Liberty Half Dollar 1945-D MS66 PCGS has earned the highest grade the Walking Liberty half dollar has received! Graded by the highly reputable PCGS, the Certified Walking Liberty Half Dollar 1945-D MS66 sports its proud grade on its official airtight holder. Collectors enjoy the benefits of investing in certified coins since it increases the numismatic value of their precious coin collections. Another benefit of collecting the graded coins is the complimentary air-sealed holder the coin is placed in. MS66 is a striking brilliant uncirculated coin that can tarnish but PCGS' coin holder will protect it from any oxidation through the years. It also has been proven that certified coins are easier to sell down the road, since their grade is not debated but proven. Marking all of their coins with the "D" mint-mark, the Denver Mint stands today as the leading coin producer in the world and was established in 1906. Being established only in 1906, the Denver Mint was able to fully participate in the Walking Liberty Half Dollar collection from start to finish, since it has been a working mint for ten years.
