The Certified Walking Liberty Half Dollar 1942-S MS65 PCGS has earned the ideal grade of MS65 and was graded by PCGS and minted by the Denver Mint. Adolph A. Weinman was a famous sculptor, who won a competition to design the new dime and half dollar in 1916. Since the Barber design reigned all three denominations for over 25 years, it was legally allowed for the Mint Director to update the design. Weinman wowed the public when the Walking Liberty design was released. Instead of sticking to a portrait-like design, Weinman desired to depict Liberty's youth and her origin.
On the obverse of Walking Liberty Half Dollars, Liberty is depicted as the Grecian goddess she is. She is delicately draped in a light-weight robe, her feet sandaled, and her arm is holding olive branches. The rising sun encroaches behind her, while the word "Liberty" hangs over her head. Underneath her feet is also the coin's date of mintage. The reverse reveals a large eagle, perched on a branch. Along with its outstretched wings, the coin's denomination is also inscribed on the reverse. The Walking Liberty design is still viewed as one of the most stunning designs ever on a coin and inspired the current American Silver Eagle bullion coin.
