This 1849 Seated Liberty Half Dollar, graded AU50 (About Uncirculated) by ANACS, is a beautiful example of early American coinage. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, the obverse features Lady Liberty seated on a rock, holding a staff topped with a liberty cap and a shield bearing the inscription "LIBERTY." The reverse depicts an eagle with a shield on its chest, clutching an olive branch and arrows, symbolizing peace and preparedness.
The coin exhibits slight wear on its high points, consistent with its AU50 grade, while retaining significant detail and luster. The Seated Liberty design was minted from 1839 to 1891, and this mid-19th-century example represents a significant era in U.S. history and coinage.
