The San Francisco Mint is one of the largest and most successful mints that also produced Morgans in their prime. It was established in 1843, as a result of the famous California Gold Rush. In just its first year of production, the San Francisco Mint turned $4 million worth of gold into coins. The west-coast based mint is also known for its overall better quality in producing coins than the other mints. When comparing the 1894-S to the 1894-O Morgan silver dollar, for example, there is quite a noticeable difference. The 1894-S is of better quality than the 1894-O, and nicer 1894-S Morgans are more available than the New Orleans counterpart. Your 1894-S Morgan carries the beautifully detailed "S" mint-mark and is in brilliant uncirculated condition. NGC, the top competitor in grading agencies, has assigned your coin the MS62 grade. Although rare, the highest grade a BU Morgan can receive is a MS70.
