Coined at one of the oldest historic landmarks in the US, the 1883-O Morgan is over 120 years old! The New Orleans Mint, or also known as the Old Mint, served as a branch of the US Mint from 1838-1861, then again from 1879-1909. Since the bulk of the New Orleans Mint's production was the Morgan silver dollar, they literally didn't make enough money to stay afloat after the Morgan ceased production. After being decommissioned, the New Orleans Mint was used for other things like an assay office, the US Coast guard office, and even a fallout shelter. Your 1889-O Certified Morgan Silver Dollar carries the historic "O" mint-mark and has earned the grade of MS62. When a BU Morgan is sent for grading, it can receive a grade between MS60-MS70. Since most Morgans were improperly stored, anything above a MS65 is rare to find.
