The Certified Morgan Silver Dollar 1887 MS66 NGC has earned a very high grade, on the Sheldon BU grading scale, and comes encased in an official NGC holder. When first learning about the Morgan silver dollar, a name you will recognize is the name of its engraver. George T. Morgan was the English engraver, who designed the famous Morgan silver dollar design. Morgan began his career early in England, before taking the giant leap across the pond to the US. He was hired as the assistant engraver to the chief engraver, William Barber, at the US Mint. Morgan worked at the mint for almost 40 years before earning the position of chief engraver when Barber died. Since the Morgan contains 90% silver, the government had to reach into their silver reserves and reauthorize the minting of the Morgans for completion. Because of the lack of silver, the Morgan's production had to stop in 1904.
