The Certified Morgan Silver Dollar 1886 MS64 PCGS has earned a grade that falls in the middle of the Sheldon BU grading scale and is preserved in an official PCGS holder. It's easy to forget most US currency was named after its engraver. This is the case with George T. Morgan, was the English engraver who designed the famous Morgan silver dollar design. He was hired as the assistant engraver to the chief engraver, William Barber, at the US Mint. Morgan worked at the mint for almost 40 years before earning the position of chief engraver when Barber died. Since the Morgan contains 90% silver, the government had to reach into their silver reserves and reauthorize the minting of the Morgans for completion. Because of the lack of silver, the Morgan's production had to stop in 1904.
