Although it hasn't been an active mint for over one hundred years, the New Orleans Mint has been officially deemed one of the oldest historic landmarks in the US. The New Orleans Mint, also known as the Old Mint, served as a branch of the US Mint from 1838-1861, then again from 1879-1909. While the Morgan silver dollar was in production, the New Orleans Mint was able to stay in business since it relied heavily on the Morgan silver dollar production. Unfortunately, the Morgan's production ceased in 1904 and the New Orleans Mint was decommissioned shortly after. Your 1885-O Morgan is considered to be in brilliant uncirculated condition and has maintained the ideal grade of MS64. NGC is held to high esteem by dealers, mints, and collectors all over the country because of their high grading standards and excellent packaging.
