The Philadelphia Mint is the oldest mint in the US, being established in 1792. After the ratification of the Constitution, the Founding Fathers needed to establish a national identity and a means of commerce. The Mint Act was also passed, during this time, to assign coins denominations based on their legal tender or metal fineness. This act also constituted that any coin in the US should feature "an impression emblematic of liberty." Your 1881 Morgan was minted in Philadelphia and in true Philly form, does not carry a mint-mark. Your coin is a brilliantly uncirculated coin that has earned the grade of MS63. Since BU Morgans' conditions vary greatly, they can receive anywhere between a MS60-MS70 grade once certified. Most Morgans have been in circulation or stored in bags for most of their long lives so finding a Morgan that has a MS65 or above grade is difficult for the collector.
