This 1834 Capped Bust Half Dollar, graded AU58 (Almost Uncirculated) by ICG, is a near-pristine example of one of the United States' classic designs. Created by John Reich, the obverse features Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap, symbolizing freedom, surrounded by thirteen stars representing the original colonies. The reverse depicts a heraldic eagle clutching arrows and an olive branch, with the denomination displayed below.
The coin exhibits only minor wear on the highest points, characteristic of the AU58 grade, and retains much of its original luster and detail. The Capped Bust Half Dollar series, minted from 1807 to 1839, is celebrated for its elegant and historically significant design, making it a cornerstone of early American coinage collections.
