Certified American $50 Gold Eagle 1986 MS69 NGC

The 1986 was the first year of issue in the Gold American Eagle Series. The Lady Liberty design has been used as a symbol of patriotism since the US began minting their own currency and her message of courage and power still reigns true. Dressed in a light robe, Lady Liberty is depicted as a warrior, with only a torch and an olive branch as her weapons. The word, "Liberty," is written above her head, and 50 small stars encircle the coin's rim. The reverse displays the American Bald Eagle, making a nest with olive branches. There isn't a more deserving coin that perfectly encapsulates the American spirit!

The design, used for the American Gold Eagle, was created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907 and repurposed in 1986 for the gold eagle. The American Gold Eagle coin program rivals other popular gold coin series worldwide. Each coin is guaranteed by the US Mint and Treasury for it's weight and purity. The coins typically carry higher premiums than gold bars but they also consistently maintain higher resale value when liquidating precious metals. Although some dates and sizes can be slightly more valuable, in general one ounce gold eagles simply track the price of gold in terms of value.
