The American Gold Eagle is the heaviest gold coin in the US and rivals popular gold coins all over the world! In 1986, the United States began striking gold and silver bullion coins to compete with world bullion coins such as the Canadian Maple Leaf, the South African Krugerrand, and others. The American Gold Eagles from Golden Eagle Coins are an extremely popular way of buying gold. Each coin is guaranteed by the US Mint and Treasury for it's weight and purity. Golden Eagle also inspects each coin before shipping to ensure the highest quality of coins.
The Certified American $25 Gold Eagle 2002 MS70 NGC has earned the highest BU grade possible and comes preserved in an official NGC holder. The purity, of the American Gold Eagle, is 91.67% gold but contains one 1/2 troy ounce of pure gold. The additional metals in the coins are copper (5%) and silver (3%) creating a purity of 22 karat. This additional metal is added to keep the coin from scratching as gold is actually a softer metal and can scratch easily in it's pure state. The coin actually weighs more than a 1/2 ounce. This 22 kt alloy is traditionally know as crown gold and is an English standard.
