Description:
The Royal Canadian Mint is proud to present the 1997 Special Edition Specimen Set of Canadian coins featuring a 10th anniversary issue of the Aureate dollar: Also this year for the first time, the set includes the new bi-metallic $2 coin. The 50 cent coin bas a newly designed Coat of Arms - the work of Cathy Bursey-Sabourin, Fraser Herald at the Canadian Heraldic Authority. The new design, which was approved in 1994, replaces the earlier one of 1921. Though it retains all the traditional symbols of Canada and its founding peoples, the motto of the Order of Canada has been added: Desiderantes meliorem patriam (*They desire a better country") to accompany the older motto of Canada: A mari usque ad mare (From sea to sea"). Finally, the set contains the one cent coin, with a new, round shape. The finish on these superb coins is a three-fold combination of brilliant and frosted-relief on a lined finished background. Each coin in this set has been individually inspected to ensure that it meets the standards of the Royal Canadian Mint.
