The 2009 gold ox is the second installment of the Perth Mint's Australian Lunar Series II. The Perth Mint wanted to keep the silver coin years and the gold coin years at the same production rate so their answer was to have 2 coins per year for three years. Those 6 coins are split: one belongs to the Series I and the other belongs to Series II. The Australian Lunar Series I coins have a simpler design, wherein the Australian Lunar Series II showcase a stunning combo of proof-like images along a matte finished brilliant uncirculated coin. This combination makes for a phenomenally designed coin that is perfect for any coin collection. As stated on the actual coin, the 2009 gold ox is .999 pure gold and is excellently packaged in a mint-sealed capsule encapsulated for protection. Due to the limited number of coins the Perth Mint produces each year, the ox gold coin has become extremely difficult to find.
The reverse side of the 2009 ox gold coin pictures a lone ox, enjoying a rest on a lush green pasture. The ox is underneath the shade of a tree, its leaves fully detailed on the reverse. The reverse showcases the magnificent combination of proof and matte finishes, making the coin come to life. Underneath the oxen is the saying, "Year of the Ox". The famous "P" mint-mark is also inscribed on the coin, along with the Chinese symbol for "ox". The obverse contains the stunning proof-like image of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, surrounded by 2009, 1 oz .999 gold, $100, and "Australia". The Gold Australian Lunar Series II is the ideal collection to start for coin collectors. Competitively low mintages, impeccable design and quality of metals, and great packaging are all reasons why this prestigious collection should become your collection!
