The magnificent kookaburra is the star of Perth Mint's bullion collection, Silver Kookaburra series. This bird has been featured on every coin since 1990, the start of production of these beauties and its popularity has taken off ever since. The kookaburra is native to the eucalyptus forests in Eastern Australia and is mainly known for their call. Their call greatly resembles that of human laughter and more specifically, cackling. These birds are also carnivorous, preying on anything between mice to insects to baby birds. It also has been witnessed that these birds have stolen meat from outdoor barbecues and aren't afraid of humans.
The Silver Kookaburras have a reverse design that changes year to year, increasing the appeal for these remarkable coins. The Australian Kookaburra series is conveniently packaged in mint-sealed capsules to protect the coin from being scratched or tarnished.
