The Perth Mint chose to start a bullion coin collection that was also considered legal tender, that focused on the Koala. The Koala is another iconic figure many associate to Australia and rightfully so. The koala bear is indigenous to the Outback and has been a beloved animal for hundreds of years. Using their incredibly adorable features such as their claw-like paws or short noses, these bears have lured visitors to Australia for the last decade, increasing the country's tourism rate.
Each Silver Koala coin is .999 fine silver, in brilliant uncirculated condition, and is packaged in a clear, mint sealed capsule. Under 300,000 silver Koalas were minted in 2016, striking an interest among avid coin collectors. Many collectors enjoy the mint issued capsules that come with the coin; it offers security in the product and protection for the coin while in transit. Following their remarkable attention to detail and quality products, the Perth Mint does not disappoint the assertive coin collector in this series.

-Obverse: The obverse design is the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. She is delicately poised in a side pose, revealing her lovely silhouette on the coin. The attention to detail of the Queen depicts an extremely realistic and older Queen, as if to celebrate her age. She is accompanied by the words, "Australia," "2016," and the coin's denomination, "one dollar," inscribed on the outer edge of the coin.
-Reverse: The reverse design reveals a curious koala, who is ambitiously clutching a tree branch as it ascends a tree. The reverse is also marked with the coin's weight and purity, which is lightly written under the gripping paws of the koala.
