First introduced in 1993, the silver Kangaroo was minted by the Royal Australian Mint. They mint a coin with a different kangaroo image on the reverse and the amount they mint is very limited. This low mintage increases their value as a coin and adds a premium to them that goes beyond the price of silver. The 2008 Kangaroo is incredibly popular since only 6,802 coins were minted that year. Every coin comes in frosted brilliant uncirculated condition, is .999 fine silver, and is delivered in its mint issued capsule and card.
A new and talented Australian artist is chosen every year to create a memorable image of the iconic Australian Kangaroo. This makes for a very unique and interesting collection since not one coin is the same. The Kangaroo on the reverse of the 2008 silver coin is a more animated character, instead of a kangaroo in its natural habitat like the other coins. This roo is standing in front of a house, while holding a football. The scene is more domestic than primal and natural. In cursive script, "one dollar" is written underneath the kangaroo, which is the coin's legal tender value. It also proves the authenticity of the coin by stating "1 ounce of fine silver" as well. The obverse design was inspired by Ian Rank-Broadley's sculpture of the Queen. Instead of preserving the Queen's youth, he wanted to celebrate her maturity in how he represented her. The Queen's signs of aging, such as lines and wrinkles, are realistically depicted on her face and neck. Her hair is short and curly, while she crown she bears is small and delicate. The coin's place and date of mintage, "Australia," and "2008," are written on the obverse as well. The 2008 Kangaroo is one of the hardest coins in the collection to find so buy yours now while supplies last! If you are looking to buy silver online and don't know where to start, the silver Kangaroo series is the perfect place to start!
