In 1932, it was the nation's first president's 200 year birthday. To honor George Washington and his bicentennial birthday, the US Mint desired to devote one of the larger coins to the late president. The bicentennial committee wanted to end the Walking liberty half dollar but after much discussion, it was the Standing Liberty quarter that got cut from circulation. The Washington quarter would be in circulation from 1932-present day, with only its alloy changing through the years, from 90% silver to a nickel/copper combo. The 90% Silver Washington Quarters roll consists of 40 coins, which equals to $10 face value. 90% silver, or also known as junk silver, is revered mainly for its silver content and lacking numismatic value. The term, "junk," refers to the 90% coins' lack of numismatic value and not the actual condition of the coins. All 90% silver is expected to have readable dates but is strictly sold for its silver content.
