The Barber Half Dollar was a part of an entire coinage series, including the dime and quarter as well. The Barber design was named after the US Mint's Chief Engraver, William Barber. The coins were in circulation from 1892-1916, but the half dollar wasn't minted the last couple of years before the series ended. The Seated Liberty design had run its course and the Mint's Director, Edward Leech, wanted to officially change the design. Holding a competition, Leech wanted to encourage participation by giving the winner a cash prize. All of the local artists invited declined and Leech resorted to his mint for direction. William Barber was ultimately assigned the task to create a new design for the US currency, that would replace the Seated Liberty. The new design was received with mixed emotions and would be replaced in 1916.
The Silver Bag Good or Better Barber Halves $1000 Face contains 2,000 Barber Half Dollars in Good or Better condition and are packaged in a strong canvas bag. 90% silver or junk silver is expected to contain coins in fair condition, absent of holes, and with dates still readable. The Silver Bag Good or Better Barber Halves $1000 Face also contains appealing dates from 1895-1915 with all the mint-marks. When using the term, "junk silver," the word junk is referring to the lack of numismatic value the coins contain and not the actual condition the coins are in. This bag weighs approximately 715 ounce of pure silver and remains one of our best values in silver (the silver weight is not representative of the total weight of the bag). All of our 90% is hand-sorted and is guaranteed to be 90% silver. Investors, who buy the 90% silver, enjoy the convenience of owning coins that are recognized as US currency and can easily be split up to sell, if need be.
