First introduced in 1993, the silver Kangaroo was minted by the Royal Australian Mint. This silver bullion series is considered legal tender and used to be one of the few series that changes their reverse design year to year. The Royal Australian Mint is out of Canberra, Australia and is one out of two mints currently in use in Australia. It is entirely owned by the Commonwealth Government of Australia. Each year, a proof coin and a frosted uncirculated coin is minted in circulation. These coins are pure silver and come packaged in plastic envelopes.
The obverse of the Kangaroo displays a beautiful side portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This specific side portrait of the Queen has been used on coins since 1953. Through the years, her face and hair accessories have changed to accommodate a more mature Queen. Written along the rim of the coin is "Australia," and the year of mintage, "2022." The reverse side of the coin depicts a lone Kangaroo, most likely male, bouncing in action. This uncirculated coin has a frosted, matte finish, creating the illusion of the Kangaroo being 3D. The coin's denomination of "one dollar" is inscribed above the jubilant Kangaroo and "1 ounce fine silver" is included underneath its long feet. When looking for a coin series to start, coin collectors usually like coins with lower mintages. The silver Kangaroo series definitely fits the bill for that interest and has become incredibly difficult to find and complete. Whether you are looking to buy silver coins for your own compilation or as a gift for someone, the silver Kangaroo is a rewarding and fun way to start. Don't miss out on the chance to own such a unique and beautiful collection!
