The 2021 Ox is one of the installments of the Perth Mint's Australian Lunar Series III; a coin series that was inspired by the Chinese zodiac. The Chinese zodiac is an ancient system put in place to tell one's fortune by the year that person is born under. These 1 ounce pure silver bullion coins come in mint sealed capsules and are brilliantly uncirculated with proof like qualities.
An ox is known for its size and stature so naturally the ox represents a large quantity of something (fortune, luck, crops, etc). People born under the year of the ox tend to be honest, patience, and accomplish tasks at a steady pace. One weakness that comes with being born under the ox is being poor at communication and boring. The simple design of the ox on the reverse of this coin is stunning. The mama ox and her calf are proof like amidst the matte finish of the rest of the coin. The date, 2021, is inscribed vertically on the left hand side of the ox. The obverse or front of the coin usually contains a portrait. In this case, the portrait is of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. The denomination of the coin, $1, and "Australia" are also written, encircling the Queen's face.
