The 2014-P Great Sand Dunes (CO) Uncirculated Quarter celebrates one of the most interesting National Parks. The Great Sand Dunes became a national park in 2000 and is based out of Colorado. The park consists of some of the highest sand dunes in North America. The dunes are a result of glaciers melted and pushing lakes further out. Over time, those waters have evaporated, leaving the sand dunes exposed and dry. Many people travel to the sand dunes to take part in activities such as hiking, sand sledding, or 4-wheeling over the tumultuous hills. Time at the dunes is limited since the temperature can raise to 150 degrees by mid-afternoon.
