Not to be confused with the $10 eagle coin minted in the Pre-1933 era, the American Gold Eagles are usually associated with their weights so it is clear which eagle is being discussed. Since it’s release in 1986, collectors and investors have flocked to the American Gold Eagle for their investment goals. Due to a copper alloy, that is added to the American Gold Eagles, to make them harder, their weight is a little more than other coins. The American Gold Eagle Coin is the official bullion coin of the United States of America and is also the heaviest gold coin as well.
Inspired by the famous $20 Saint-Gaudens design, the American Gold Eagle features a design that is both unique and pays homage to some of the most popular coin designs in US history. When the $20 Saint-Gaudens was first designed, it offered a different depiction of Lady Liberty than what was usually pictured on the coins. The obverse features a fierce Lady Liberty, portrayed as a warrior. This revolutionary design, by the famous sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, has stuck on US bullion coins ever since. The reverse also reveals two large bald eagles, the kings of the birds of prey, making a cozy nest out of olive branches. The American Gold Eagle is a US staple, nodding to the past but adding numismatic value to your investment future!
