The Silver Maple Leaf series has proven itself to be worthy enough for any serious collector or investor's collection. The Royal Canadian Mint has earned its reputation of not only minting premium products but also raising the proverbial bar when it comes to silver bullion production. Similar to other silver coin series, the Silver Maple Leaf has kept its original design through the years. The same design does not deter interested buyers away, since the RCM is known for constant technological advances when it comes to counterfeit prevention. What may look like the same coin from year to year, its actual structure has constantly changed.
Using the purest silver, .9999, which can be difficult to mold into a coin but it also makes for a much softer coin. Since the coin is so soft, it is more vulnerable to tarnishing and scratching. Many collectors prefer to store their Silver Maple Leaf collection in an airtight container. The portrait of the Queen has changed throughout the years, since there has been 3 separate artists who have contributed to the design on the coin. Susanna Blunt is the artist who illustrated the Queen on your 2011 Silver Maple Leaf. Blunt initially designed the famous portrait in 2004 and the same picture has been used ever since. Instead of depicting the Queen in her official garb, Queen Elizabeth II is dressed more casually, with a delicate string of pearls around her neck.
