The 1986 American Silver Eagle caught collectors by surprise, when a brand new, pure silver dollar was released. This was the first dollar to be minted since the Peace Silver Dollar series ended in 1935 and the only dollar in history to contain pure silver. This coin not only grabbed the attention of avid coin collectors but it also changed the silver bullion industry. Entering the unknown precious metals market, the US Mint produced over 5 million eagles in 1986, to gauge how popular these beauties would be. The US Mint places 20 coins in a roll, which belong in a green monster box. Collectors are given the option to own individual coins, or enjoy the quantity discount that comes with buying in bulk.
Your 1986 American Silver Eagle Roll contains 20 Brilliantly Uncirculated coins, each weighing one troy ounce of .999 silver. Collectors usually look forward to an untarnished, unscratched, crisp silver dollar when investing in Brilliant Uncirculated eagles. Since each coin is snuggly stacked on top of each other, there is no room for movement that would cause coins to run against each other. The reverse reveals the US Seal: a large eagle with outstretched wings, talons holding branches and arrows, and a shield to protect its chest. The obverse design was inspired by Adolph A. Weinman's famous design on the Walking Liberty half dollar from 1916-1947. The Walking Liberty design was chosen, due to its popularity by being the most popular image on a US coin in coinage history. This iconic image graces the obverse of every American Silver Eagle; Lady Liberty is delicately draped in a loose fitting dress as she holds dearly some branches in her arm and the US flag over her shoulders. "Liberty," "In God We Trust," and the date of mintage are stamped on the obverse as well.
